Atlantique Boat Owners Protesting Slip Rental Fee Increases at Marina

Posted on April 19, 2021 by admin in Fire Island News

Fire Island’s Atlantique marina is undergoing some changes and boat owners are not happy about them. Formerly town-owned, the marina is now owned by private companies who are increasing rental fees, in addition to removing discounts for seniors and veterans.

President of the Atlantique Boat Owners Association (ABOA), Diane Setter, organized a protest on the boat owners’ behalf about these changes, located at Islip Town Hall.

The private companies that own the marina are Strong’s Marine, Al Grovers High and Dry Marina. They told Newsday the price increases are necessary because the marina was neglected and mismanaged for years.

“We believe that [fee increases are] very fair and we’ve asked people to have a little patience. Next winter they’ll see there were very significant investments,” they said in a statement.

The ABOA said in their own statement, “The boating and beach-going community is outraged, those who are aware of these changes, of course. There has been a lack of communication with residents on the Town of Islip’s part and officials have yet to make these changes be known to the public. “

Now, more than ever, buying a Fire Island beach house is a considerable investment which can bring family memories for years to come. For over 40 years William J Newman Realty has had the pleasure of servicing the west end of Fire Island, helping families enjoy this special barrier beach destination.
