Fire Damages Home in Fire Island’s Saltaire, 7 Fire Departments Respond

Posted on July 6, 2021 by admin in Fire Island News

A home on Fire Island’s Saltaire caught on fire on June 25, with seven fire departments and about 90 firefighters and EMTs responding to the blaze.

Firefighters from Saltaire, Fair Harbor, Kismet, Ocean Beach, Ocean Bay Park, Point of Woods, West Islip and Bay Shore responded to the fire and helped to get the flames under control. Unfortunately, the home suffered “significant damage.”

The fire started at 7:15am and it took the firefighters two hours to get it under control, said Jarrod Bernstein, an assistant chief with the Saltaire Volunteer Fire Company.

The good news is the home was not occupied during the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it’s being investigated by Arson Section detectives.
