Fire Island Dance Festival Gains Host Cady Huffman

The Fire Island Dance Festival, produced by and benefitting Dancers Responding to AIDS, has added Tony award winner Cady Huffman as its host. The weekend-long festival started in 1995 and benefits the DRA’s fundraising program Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which supports essential programs of The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative, The Dancers’ Resource and over 450 AIDS and family service organizations in the U.S.

Huffman, a regular on Food Network’s Iron Chef America, won the Tony award for her role in The Producers. She was also nominated for a Tony for her role in The Will Rogers Follies. She has also appeared on TV shows like Frasier, The Good Wife and Law and Order: SVU.

Since the Fire Island Dance Festival’s inception, the event has raised over $4.8 million for those fighting AIDs in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. The event raises money to provide emergency financial assistance, medications that can save lives, healthy meals and counseling. Last year, the Fire Island Dance Festival broke records when raising an unprecedented $560,133.

The festival, which takes place from July 14-16, brings veteran and up-and-coming dance companies and choreographers together to raise money. The event takes place on a waterfront stage in Fire Island Pines.

In addition to Cady Huffman as host, the lineup includes Caleb Teicher & Company; EVIDENCE, A Dance Company; Peridance Contemporary Dance Company and Pontus Lidberg Dance, choreography from Broadway’s Lorin Latarro and Manuel Vignoulle, Cuba-based dance company Acosta Danza’s first performance in the U.S., choreographer Al Blackstone featuring a performance by American Ballet Theatre principal dancer James Whiteside and Miami City Ballet, featuring performances by principals Jeanette Delgado and Kleber Rebello.
