Fire Island’s Grove Hotel Will Reopen in Summer 2017

Posted on May 4, 2017 by William J. Newman in Fire Island News

The Grove Hotel on Cherry Grove, one of Fire Island’s most recognized hotels for the past five decades, will reopen in summer 2017 after a March 2015 fire. The fire wiped out the hotel but left the popular nightclub attached to it, The Ice Palace, mostly undamaged. Construction started in September, and the largest hotel in Fire Island will now reopen this summer with a new design and larger rooms.

Bar Manager of the Ice Palace, Robert Lassegue, told NewNowNext in an interview about the Grove Hotel’s reopening, “The decision to rebuild was not difficult,” adding, “The community, our customers, are very excited to have the return of this Fire Island landmark. [It has helped] make Cherry Grove and The Pines a destination place for the LGBT community.”

Changes to the Grove Hotel include wifi capabilities throughout the property, balconies added to rooms overlooking the pool and more square footage than the original. The hotel is the home of the famous Miss Fire Island contest, which will resume there this September.

Two years ago, the Grove Hotel’s owner Frank Liguori told CBS 2 New York that he was “heartbroken” by the fire and looking to “rebuild as soon as possible.” The hotel’s website now says it’s in the “final phase” of construction and will reopen in “mid summer season.”
