Kismet’s Surf’s Out Closing After Over a Decade in Business

Posted on April 19, 2021 by admin in Fire Island News

The owners of Fire Island’s popular eatery, Surf’s Out, located in Kismet, have announced they’re closing their doors after 12 years in business.

Co-owners Dean Cirella, Matthew Barbara and Paul Barbara made the announcement in a Facebook post, informing customers they won’t be reopening this summer like expected.

However, the restaurant “will become a different restaurant under new ownership,” they assured, although they didn’t provide any details about a possible reopening or information about the new owners.

Kismet’s Surf’s Out, which was previously named The Out by its previous owners, is one of the few restaurants on Fire Island. It’s a popular destination for boaters and people taking a day trip over from Robert Moses State Park, offering great food, cocktails and live music.

The co-owners also wrote in their Facebook post that they plan on opening another restaurant on Long Island in the future. “We’ve had too much fun roasting pigs, celebrating the full moon, and dancing the night away to not come back!” they wrote.

Now, more than ever, buying a Fire Island beach house is a considerable investment which can bring family memories for years to come. For over 40 years William J Newman Realty has had the pleasure of servicing the west end of Fire Island, helping families enjoy this special barrier beach destination.
