Winter Storms Cause Flooding in Fire Island’s Ocean Beach

Posted on March 1, 2021 by admin in Fire Island News

This year’s winter storms have caused a ripple effect of consequences for the quaint Fire Island. After a combination of freezing temperatures, heavy snow and plenty of wind, residents were concerned of power outages. The real after-effects, however, were flooding instead.

Unfortunately, the snow wasn’t the only thing that hit the south shore of Long Island. The heavy storms happened during high tide, which caused the flooding. Suffolk County towns like Sayville and Oakville experienced flooding, while video footage shown below shows the flooding that occurred on Fire Island last month.

This video shows the flooding that Fire Island residents had to deal with in Fire Island’s Ocean Beach. The footage is taken from the Palms Hotel. At the time, all of Long Island was under a coastal flood advisory.

Now that the flooding has subsided, Fire Island residents are looking forward to warmer, drier days ahead.

Now, more than ever, buying a Fire Island beach house is a considerable investment which can bring family memories for years to come. For over 40 years William J Newman Realty has had the pleasure of servicing the west end of Fire Island, helping families enjoy this special barrier beach destination.
