Stranded Men Rescued From Sinking Sail Boat Off Coast of Fire Island
Four Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued two men from a sinking 25-foot sail boat off the coast of Fire Island early Saturday morning.
Fire Island Pines Harbor police said in a statement that the men were rescued around 1am and transferred safely to a police boat. “The lines on the sailboat broke and were being smashed against the dock and other boats,” the statement said.
Marine Bureau Officers William Houst, John Mullins, Michael Klarmann and Steven Squires responded to the scene and pulled Chris Sinforter, 32, and Christian Teneyck, 37, on to their vessel, Marine X-Ray. The sailboat was able to be salvaged and was towed to land.
Neither of the rescued men were injured, but one of the policemen was treated at the hospital for minor injuries obtained during the rescue.
